Coffee and tea maker made from a milk bottle.Glas. Cork. Aluminium. Stainless Steel.
Designed in the Love School Project - a co-creation project beetween UdK Berlin and pupils of the Love School in the slum Kangemi in Nairobi, Kenya.
The design was inspired by a constant exchange with the two pupils Kevin Malenya and Stacy Khakhali (age 9 and 11).While gettig to know each others ways of life we shared our results from working on different creative tasks. These i created in order to find out about possible directions and to see how the kids would approach problems, experiment and be creative.
Through the process we used glass containers and certain processing principles that were interesting and making sense in the context. It felt natural to use free materials that were available in Kangemi and at the same time had a certain quality in terms of stability, aesthetics and being free from toxics. Also considering the often overseen value of products we already have or even define as trash, my goal was to use existing products to create new ones - on the hand a high end product, on the other hand a variation easy to reproduce by the kids.
Shift and the Love School Project were exhibited in Berlin at erstererster and State Of Design 2017, imm-2018, Salone del Mobile Milano 2018.
The products designed in the project were sold at erstererster and unitedcharity and the money was given to the Love School.
